Arbor Shepherd Huts at the Henley Decor Fair

We were fortunate enough to spend the weekend at Henley Decor Fair recently (see the pictures below). The weather was, as one might expect in April in the UK, mixed. However, the sun shone in between the showers and as Alfred Wainwright, renowned fellsman and writer said, ‘there is no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing’, and the weather did nothing to dampen the spirits of the exhibitors or the visitors. We met lots of interesting new people and had a great time poking around the many fascinating exhibitors featuring architectural salvage, art, decor, antiques and even topiary. We’ll be back again next year, come rain or shine, and would thoroughly recommend a visit if you’re in the area.

Why buy a shepherd hut?

If you're looking for a unique and versatile living space, then a shepherd hut could be just what you need. These charming huts are based on the traditional design of the huts that shepherds used to live in while tending to their flocks in the countryside. Nowadays, they have been reimagined as comfortable and stylish living spaces that are perfect for a variety of uses.

One of the main benefits of a shepherd hut is their mobility. They can be placed almost anywhere and can be moved easily if you need to relocate. This makes them ideal for use as a guesthouse, home office, or even a holiday home. They also make great additions to a garden , providing a cosy space to relax in.

Another advantage of a shepherd hut is their versatility. They can be customized to suit your needs, with options for insulation, heating, plumbing, and electricity. You can also choose from a range of sizes and layouts, making it easy to find one that fits your requirements.

In addition, shepherd huts are environmentally friendly. They are typically made from sustainable materials and can be designed to be off-grid, reducing your carbon footprint. Plus, their compact size means they require less energy to heat and cool than a larger home.

One of the great advantages of shepherd huts is that, unlike permanent structures, they usually don’t require planning permission for single, personal use huts. But there are occasions when you may need to apply for planning permission - if you’re starting a glamping business or if you live in a National Park. And different countries often have different rules, even in the UK.

Overall, a shepherds hut is a unique and practical choice for anyone looking for a versatile and eco-friendly living space. They offer a cosy and comfortable place to call home, while also being mobile and customisable to meet your needs.
